Warts

5 min read

Warts are small, benign skin growths caused by infection with human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear anywhere on the body and are generally painless unless they are located on pressure-bearing areas like the soles of the feet.

Most warts can be effectively treated with appropriate intervention. Early treatment offers better outcomes and prevents spread to other areas.

Symptoms of Warts

  • Small, hard bumps on the skin
  • Flesh-colored or darkly pigmented
  • May have a cauliflower-like appearance
  • Painless (unless on pressure areas)

Types of Warts

  • Common Warts
  • Plantar Warts (on soles of feet)
  • Flat Warts
  • Filiform Warts

  • Weakened immunity
  • Close contact with infected individuals

Diagnosis

Warts are usually diagnosed through clinical examination. In some cases, dermoscopy or biopsy may be recommended to confirm the diagnosis or rule out other conditions.

Treatment options may include:

  • Topical keratolytic agents
  • Cryotherapy (freezing)

Prevention of Recurrence

  • Keep the skin clean and dry
  • Avoid picking or scratching warts
