Vitiligo Surgery

Advanced surgical treatment for stable vitiligo using multiple grafting techniques to restore natural skin color.

Advanced Surgical Treatment for Stable Vitiligo

Vitiligo surgery is an effective treatment option for patients with stable vitiligo who have not achieved satisfactory repigmentation with medicines and phototherapy. The procedure involves transferring healthy pigment-producing cells (melanocytes) from normally pigmented skin to vitiligo patches, helping restore natural skin color.

Types of Vitiligo Surgery

Punch Grafting

Small grafts of normally pigmented skin are transferred to vitiligo patches, allowing pigment to spread gradually into the depigmented area.

Suction Blister Grafting

A thin layer of healthy skin obtained through suction blisters is transplanted onto the vitiligo patch, providing excellent color matching.

Split Thickness Skin Grafting

A very thin layer of pigmented skin is harvested and transplanted onto larger vitiligo patches.

Melanocyte Transfer

Pigment-producing cells are harvested from normal skin, processed, and transplanted onto the vitiligo area to achieve repigmentation.

How is the Procedure Performed?

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia as a daycare surgery. Healthy pigmented skin is taken from a donor area and transferred to the vitiligo patch using the most appropriate surgical technique.

Following the procedure, dressings are applied and patients are given detailed post-operative instructions.
